Day 1

Ft. McHenry

Today someone in the airport asked me if I was from England. I wasn't sure why until I looked at my shirt and realized that I had on an "England" shirt.

We visited Fort McHenry today. It was the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner as written by Francis Scott Key during the attack on Ft. McHenry. He was taken prisoner on a British warship while he was on a diplomatic mission to save Baltimore, MD.  He actually wrote four different verses of the Star Spangled Banner, but clearly people know more of the first verse than any of the others.  It was a really great fort and was very reminiscent of the fort at St. Augustine, FL. The revolutionary soldier even remarked on the guts I had to wear my England shirt to this fort. It was totally unintentional, but rather hilarious.

After several hours of walking around the fort we are headed for our hotel in Williamsburg, VA.
